RIP
(Rest in Pieces)

2004-2016

Well, the news is out. LDD is gone for good (probably). I had LDD a while back, but it was finicky, especially with large assemblies and flexible parts (a relatively new feature). For the longest time I couldn't install the new update, so I started looking for a new interface. LDraw was promising, but wasn't quite what I had imagined. Finally, I found Mecabricks, and have hardly touched LDD since. However, I do feel sorry for all those users. Maybe we'll see more traffic here soon, hard to say!

The LDD brick looks sad.

As for the traffic it has been multiply by 3 at mid-day compared to a normal full day. Hopefully mecabricks is good and attractive enough to retain a few of those new visitors.

What happened to LDD? It's still available to download at lego.com.

Yes but it has been announced that LEGO is not going to support it anymore - no part updates, etc.

Didn't even know we had been getting part updates on LDD up to this point. Oh well, I abandoned LDD when I found Mecabricks.

It has been a year and a half that there was the last part update anyway.

Hey you stole my joke!

I'm just kidding. Very creative!

I used to use LDD for building models until I discovered the vast world of 3D modeling, animation, and of course Mecabricks! I still am using and will continue to for much larger models until I begin to grasp the user interface of Mecabricks. I personally do not think I have mastered it at all.

To bring back some hope...
LDD is not gone! They just had a parts update this February! In fact, they also are completely remodeling the LDD galleries!

LDD now and FOREVER!

Unless you have Mecabricks

Where did you find this information? I can't find a big part update anywhere.

It arrived on my LDD in February, during the Lego Ideas moments in Space contest. I went to galleries, and it said "Save your models on your computer, we are redoing the galleries in a few days and models from the old galleries will not be saved". Right now there is a temporary gallery while they finish the new one.

They removed the message about the new LDD gallery. This is not possible to upload/download lxf anymore. It doesn't look like they will do anything else.

For LDD update, it is now version 4.8.11 that has been published in January/February I believe.

I'm in contact with TLG. I'll tell you the results.

I got the reply!
"That sounds cool, but I just don't know! We haven't announced anything like that yet, but keep an eye on ldd.LEGO.com for any updates or announcements!"
Sorry if I mislead anyone, I guess I was wrong. This was to the LDD people, so if they're planning something they might have hinted at it.

No worries @ArmoredBricks!

Yeah, I don't mind much. Mecabricks will soon completely replace LDD for me. Nice new profile pic @Samino!

Thank you! It is a temporary logo for now. Qwerty7556 has been teaching me how to rig a bendy minifigure in Blender. And I am happy to say I am almost finished with it. My current profile picture is my new rendering watermark, much better than the old ninja one. That one was pretty bad with all of the fuzzy white lines on the edge...

RIP LDD...

Not really!
There was a large part update a few months ago, and I still use it because I find it easier to build with and pose things. I liked the build though and I just had to render it!

@PearKid
I saw this the other day and decided to render it and I see you did too!

I've found that many of the parts added in the last patch on LDD were poorly made. One even took up the same space as a larger one of the same variety, only looked different. They added no new decorations (unfortunately)
The new galleries seem to be filled with real-life mocs now instead of simply lxf files which were awesome. I secretly suspect their designers no longer use LDD, as they've found better software...

MECABRICKS.

Wow, awesome job on the rain in that render! How did you do the splashing raindrops?

@BrickHoard
Thanks! I used the fluid simulator for the slashes and particles for the falling drops.
