This set no. 8635 'Mobile Command Center' came out in June 2008 as part of the "Agents" theme. Clocking at over 1150 parts and seven minifigs, it was the largest in the series.

Even though LEGO designers created all characters and storylines for the "Agents" from scratch, the theme had some notable predecessors. New secret agents were very loosely based on the 2001 "Alpha Team" series. (Back in the early 2000s, LEGO invested heavily in producing videogames, and "Alpha Team" became one of the first LEGO System product lines to have a corresponding videogame with the same characters. Other prime examples of such 'marketing synergy' from the era include "Island Xtreme Stunts," Rock Raiders, LEGO Racers, etc.)

Stylistically, "Agents" are an excellent blend of over-the-top action/adventure aesthetics of comics, Hollywood superhero blockbusters, and computer videogames. Mark Stafford, a LEGO designer who created the "Agents," still works for the company. According to this Brickset list (https://brickset.com/sets/designer-Mark-Stafford), Stafford initially worked on Exo-Force models, and "Agents" became his first LEGO System assignment. His background is undoubtedly notable in a liberal usage of Technic elements and non-conventional building techniques.

There were so many fantastic "truck + trailer" models with the same design in the past (see a few examples below), and I must say, the 'Mobile Command Center' became an exceptional addition to LEGO cannon.
