Invented by dentist J.W. Elliot in 1869, the Rotary is a piece of rolling stock pushed by 2-3 locomotives to remove snow from the rails by using a large fan to cut through the layers of snow and blow it to the side. Originally powered by a steam engine, newer rotaries are powered by either diesel or electric. Today, only a handful of steam-driven Rotaries still exist, however, Cumbres and Toltec Rotary OY was recently restored in March 2020 and cleared snow for the first time in over 20 years.
This set includes the Rotary Snow Plow, two 2-8-0 consolidation steam locomotives, and a caboose.
