The inventory is 100% exact; decorative parts are missing, so I used two 1x2 sloping bricks with similar prints for a Fireboat's dashboard. An Octan speedboat's engine has virtually identical sci-fi/ray gun molds: Lego part #87993 vs. a missing #13608.

This set no. 60005 'Fire Boat' came out in 2013 as part of the City's "Fire" subtheme. Lego redesigned the entire lineup from scratch that year—however, the 'Fire Boat' was a limited retail release, not featured in consumer catalogs, and tagged "Hard To Find" at LEGO.com online store.

The fireboat in this set represents the sixth generation of floating Lego fireboats (see detailed Timeline below). It's based on a two-part 28x8x3 hull (Lego part #92710cXX, still currently in use, and featured in 10+ sets since its introduction in 2011): bottom snaps off the top deck with studs. The boat features a fire cannon on a rotating base and three searchlights in the front. There are no seats, as both the captain and firefighter operating the water cannon stand. Also, there aren't any other moving parts, and nothing opens.

The second vessel, an Octan speedboat dinghy, represents the actual fire accident, with the engine caught in flames. This monstrous V6 engine is one of the build's highlights and, perhaps, my personal favorite element. It has a rubber belt, enormous air intake on top, and very unorthodox cylinders design—depicted by six "Sci-Fi / Ray Guns" in silver metallic. The powertrain is complete with submersible twin propulsors in the rear.

The race boat also features an adjustable spoiler and a double cockpit with a steering wheel and a pair of "mini-antenna" throttle controls. Somehow, there aren't any gauges or dashboard, which I think is a bit of a design shortcoming. Sure, the racing vehicles, especially boats and planes, often won't have a speedometer. But how about oil temp, engine revs, and other critical parameters pilots must keep an eye on?

=LEGO FIREBOATS TIMELINE=

Floating boats always were a crucial part of the LEGO System canon. For over 30 years, from '73 till 2005, there was a dedicated "Boats" theme, and since then, many more floating models appeared within "City."

As fas as fireboats specifically, Lego produced 6-7 different models before the 2013 'Fire Boat,' ranging from ~40 to 360+ parts:

=1st GENERATION=
Two earliest fireboats had the same 22x8x3⅓ boat hull built from three individual Lego parts.

1). [1978] 316: Fire Fighting Launch / 775: Fire Fighter
No minifigures

2). [1982] 4025: Fire Boat
Included three minifigs

---------------------------------------------------------

=2nd GENERATION=
The last eighties' fireboat had a one-piece 38x10x5⅔ body.

3). [1987] 4020: Fire Fighter

---------------------------------------------------------

=3rd GENERATION=
One of the largest fireboats (360+ parts), it had a massive 52x12x6⅓ one-piece hull.

4). [1991] 4031: Fire Rescue

---------------------------------------------------------

=4th GENERATION=
This was a simplified, so-called "juniorized" build—part of the "City Center" theme for younger children. The boat's 22x8x2⅓ body was a new Lego part #30255.

5). [1999] 6429: Blaze Responder

---------------------------------------------------------

=5th GENERATION=
Lego developed a brand new 51x12x6 boat hull, which consisted of two easily snappable parts: a hollow body and a topdeck with studs. These sets came out as part of the "City" theme.

6). [2007] 7906: Fireboat
The earlier version of the hull, Lego part #54100, remained exclusive to this set (and had decals).

7). [2010] 7207: Fire Boat
Came with a slightly updated body, Lego part #62791cXX (used in seven different sets). This model also had a unique electric motor, so it could not just float but actually travel across water.
