The inventory is 97-98% accurate; I used two sizable MOC-assemblies in place of missing raised baseplates. I also replaced the cargo tricycle with a yellow motorcycle (the rear add-on console is presented). Did my best to replicate missing torsos as close as possible.

This set no. 4556 'Train Station' came out in 1999 as part of the 9V "Trains" theme. Clocking at 236 bricks and seven minifigures, it was the second-largest model in one of my all-time favorite nineties' "Trains" line-ups; I submitted quite a few sets from that year on Mecabricks already (see links below).

The new model represented only a second generation of Lego railway stations in the 9V era (1991–2007), as two earlier models, set no. 4554 'Metro Station' in '91 and set no. 2150 'Train Station' in 1996 were virtually identical (only different in colors, really), despite a five-year age difference.

It was a rather drastic redesign; the new station is almost twice as small as predecessors for starters. To my taste, personally, this reduction in scale only makes the building look more elegant and pronounced.

The architectural silhouette is similar, but instead of an old-fashioned clock tower, the renovated Train Station features just a tiny dining area/cafe above the ground level. The building stands on two raised 16x16x2⅓ baseplates, so the actual platform is compact. Inside the building, there are a baggage room and a pizza restaurant. A neat rotating turnstile in the lobby lets passengers in-and-out.

Ironically, all the most detailed decorations in this set are food-related! One could find an elaborate and detailed soft drinks fountain inside the cafe and the whole three pizzas. And most of the self-applying stickers are depicting various types of food too.

Enjoy the build, and make sure to check out more relevant "Trains" sets on Mecabricks below:
