Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1914 and given the name "Matt H. Shay" after a former engineer on the Erie Railroad, this 2-8-8-8-2 steam locomotive was used to pull (or push) heavy freight trains over steep grades. The engine's three sets of driving wheels allowed the Triplex to produce an impressive 176,000 pounds of tractive effort.
