1817-1: Sea Plane with Hut and Boat // Airline Promotional Set
The set no. 1817 'Sea Plane with Hut and Boat' came out in 1996, an exclusive promo available with several air carriers, including British Airways. The build is 97% complete, only 4 parts are missing (counting the sticker set and minifig torso).
I just recently discovered the Lego airline promos concept, which is one of the longest-running sub-themes, as a matter of fact, with 50+ sets released over almost forty years! See the list of Airline Promotional Sets available on Mecabricks below (including a couple of my builds).
This box was the first 'seaplane' among the airline promos (five came out in total, over the years), and definitely my favorite! With just 135 parts, Lego designers offered 3 minifigs, a building, two vehicles, and ample accessories! Instructions are split between two leaflets. Probably a fantastic deal, if it was able to buy even 15-45 minutes of silence (depending on the nefarious kid's age) for parents and fellow passengers!
Frankly, the latest airline promo Seaplane, the set no. 7214 I recently built, pales in comparison. It was similarly-sized, with 125 parts, but only came with one pilot, one suitcase, and the aircraft, no amusing little details and all that funk.
