Lego Architecture serie - Arco della Pace, Milano, Italy

The Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace) is one of the most famous landmark in Milano, and is one of the old gates to the city, the Sempione (Simplon) Gate.
The Arch is located in a wide round square at the end of Parco Sempione (Simplon Park), the main city park of Milan, designed to provide a panoramic view encompassing both the Arch and the Castello Sforzesco (Sforza Castle), located right on the other end.
It also marks the beginning of Corso Sempione, one of Milan's main arteries, wich connects Milan to Paris throug the Simplon Pass.
The neoclassical triumphal arch is 25 m high and 24 m wide, surrounded by corinthian columns and decorated with bas-reliefs and statues, mainly made of marble and bronze, but also of a variety of materials including wood and stucco.
The construction begun in 1807 Such decorations, especially bas-reliefs, are dedicated to major events in the history of Italy and Europe, have classical mythology subjects or represent allegories of major rivers in North Italy.
This set is partially based on the Lego Architecture - Arc de Triomphe set.
