Hello. It's me again.
Yeah, today, with something a little more serious…
I think mecabricks has a problem. And it's not the only platform with that problem. Youtube and Twitch also face similar problems, but that does not make them less important to adress:
There are "spamming accounts", which use the attention of featured models to advertise stuff in the comments.
Scrubs himself PMed me that "spammers are painful" after I reported somebody whom I saw advertising XXX… stuff on a Model, which is more than just inacceptable. I think this platform needs guidelines to make clear what is wrong and what is right to do here.
What also is a big problem besides the advertisers are the trolls and the copycats.
I know how much we love to do whatever we want here, but we have multiple examples of people behaving against any ethical or moral manners of a kid/user-friendly website, and I cannot watch them do that any longer.
An example: I recently published a model to honor a dead person, and one certain user thought it to be a great idea to advertise a website for something not even related. Of course, I PMed the user and I forgave him. But after all, it's not only annoying, it's disrespecting and honestly discouraging! Imagine getting a model featured and people use it for commercial advertisement to get attention. How would you feel?
Now, I do not want to make Mecabricks seem worse than it is. It is meant to be a lego modelling platform after all.
And seeing all those people behave correctly gives me hope. And so does seeing all those great models here!
Thanks for reading this far, I just had to get rid of this!
So, what do you think about the problems?
And most importantly,
What do you think can be done done about these problems?
Feel free to submit your thoughts in the comments.

I understand your feelings, but my piece of advice would be: just ignore them.
I know it's painful, but in the end, it is not such a big deal.
I have had models 'stolen', but the re-published copies do not get much views...
I have had people advertising on my models, but other users would just ignore them...
These annoying guys will just stop if they see that they do not get any attention from others. But don't start a war, you'll lose your mind. So keep building and don't worry

gotta agree with @GV there,

I don't know... I kinda agree with Leatho here. Mecabricks is flawed in that there isn't really a way to report users or models without PMing a mod. It's really a hassle and takes too long for them to respond. At this point, Mecabricks is a social platform and should be treated as such. Hope y'all understand @GV and @KoA.

I agree with @leatho and @seb on this

Trolls intentionally break the rules and there is not much we can do about them both. Like what General Veers said, ghost them. And disagreeing with Sebachie here (I promise only on this topic), Mecabricks is not supposed to be a social platform, nor was it ever intended to be in the first place. It's a place to share digital Lego models and renders. I know that human instincts will fail us and make some of us hit back at the trolls and spam accounts, but if all of us ghost them, not only do we deprive them of the main thing they want, attention, but we also make it crystal-clear what violations they have done. After the new Mecabricks is online, we can maybe see Scrubs being more active and maybe we'll see a new batch of moderators. Only time will tell.

Ah. Forgive my phrasing @Cakery, what I meant to express is that, though Mecabricks is primarily a LEGO model builder, the website has embraced the social aspect in that people can like, comment on, and post models. Not necessarily saying Mecabricks is akin to Tumblr or Twitter.

Off topic: anyone know when the new mecabricks will be up?
And what changes will there be?

WAIT!!!
Will all our accounts be erased?
Cakery

No, silly. Our accounts won't be erased. In fact, if you make a new Mecabricks account on the dev build right now, as soon as the new Mecabricks launches, those accounts will be deleted, not the ones currently here.

Not quite a loss, the accounts you make there are currently useless no matter what. It's just about demonstrating him the major public changes done up to now.

Listen... I get the arguement of "just ignore them, they're just trolls." But when users like @Me_Pink are encouraging suicide... we have a biiiig problem here.
leatho

That's true.

There are times when "just ignore them lul" isn't a valid option. It would be good to have some active enforcement available to clean up the drek which occasionally splatters this place.
Cakery

The thing is that larger active enforcement most likely won't be a thing until after the new Mecabricks is online.

I think I should do something, I have a problem, it's not spam or imitators. Look, my PC is a Lenovo of *Censored* and it is not capable of carrying so much load to store large models and the parts bug.

Ah, yes, I once had one as well. It went haywire when I tried to save big projects.

The problem are people like you, and you know tgat!
Now get that render out of my model before it gets deleted!
DarkSpark

The other (less important) problem I'd like to adress is that my renders keep being deleted. I only upload renders to my own models and they are neither what I'd define as awfully ugly, nor unethical, nor inappropriate. I don't know if I am the only one with this problem, but I would like to know why that keeps happening to me.
While there sure are guidelines for rendering, I do not know which one I am supposed to have broken. It sais that renders are "Deleted without any warning", but I want to know what I did wrong, to improve in the future! I mean, imagine you get an F in a test but the teacher did not mark any mistake! That is why I think that creators of "inappropriate" renders should indeed be notified about their deletion, and about the reason why the render has broken the rules.

That's the thing about the Mecabricks admins. They're extremely uncommunicative in most cases. The only time they seem to provide statements is when an issue is either 'serious' in nature, or if everyone annoys them enough. The moderation needs a serious rework if Mecabricks is to embrace the community aspect of it.
Na, #noMBCommunity.
Cakery

@DarkSpark: the intention is that you know the rules before you render items. If I can see the renders in question, I can find out what might have violated the rules.
@Sebachie: maybe after the new Mecabricks launches, we'll receive a better moderation system

@Cakery, hopefully. If all that were to be done on Mecabricks 2 is a report button, I would be somewhat fine with it.

@noblebunny, I love your models, but don’t hate me please, your the best user other than @scrubs.
